There is a good chance that you’ve heard the phrase “diamonds are a girl’s best friend” more times than you can count, especially when you are bombarded with advertisements and commercials for engagement rings. However, this begs the question: can diamonds be a man’s best friend too? Most of the time, men like to keep the bling on their diamonds to a super minimum, but diamonds can add a little extra magic to a men’s wedding band, especially if it’s done right. The answer seems pretty clear: diamonds can be a man’s best friend too, but here are some tips.
Too much bling can be too flashy.
When you are choosing a diamond wedding band, you don’t want to go full bling. This can look a little over the top, and you don’t want to take away the bling from your spouse. Indeed, if you have too many rocks embedded in your band, it can look a little tacky. Of course, if that’s your thing and you can get away with it, you should go full bling. There is nothing wrong with it, but you may want to get a second, third, fourth and maybe fifth opinion from friends and family members.
Stick to smaller carats.
One way to get away with a little more bling is to go with smaller carats. This can be a little classier, and you can get away with having more since they’re smaller. The truth of the matter is that smaller diamonds will also be more affordable. You may be surprised by how subtle and nice a few ten pointers can be (a ten pointer is 0.10 carats).
Find a unique way to place the gems.
Of course, after you choose the stones and the band, you want to find a unique way to set them. If you are buying the ring pre-made, you don’t need to worry about this, but if you are custom designing the ring, you will have the freedom to get creative. If you aren’t sure, you can always ask your jeweler to offer some advice. All in all, though, you want to choose placement very carefully.
Choose the color carefully.
On top of everything, you also want to choose the color of the diamonds very carefully. In general, it’s not traditional for a man to wear diamonds of the fancy colored variety, but white diamonds – in a smaller carat – can look really nice. Moreover, you could go for a black diamonds, which are great for giving a masculine ring a little bit of bling. In the end, diamonds can be a man’s best friend, but only if the diamond matches your aesthetic taste – otherwise you may want to go for a simple metal wedding band.
